The Achieve with TELA is an established school based initial teacher training provider with a successful track record in Initial Teacher Training in our communities in Leicester and Leicestershire. We are the lead delivery partner with Leicester & Leicestershire SCITT.
The Achieve with TELA school based initial teacher training course is a challenging program and we aim to recruit the best. We are looking for applicants with a wide range of skills, knowledge and relevant experience and/or transferable skills, as well as a passion for working with young people and sharing enthusiasm for their subject specialism.
All trainee teachers will be subject to enhanced disclosure check from the Disclosure and Barring Service(DBS).

School-based training provides the greatest opportunity to spend time in the classroom, learning from current teachers and seeing exactly how they teach - see how every lesson has the potential to change a life, in your community.
You will cover key stages (KS) 3 and 4 and have an in-depth knowledge of how the practices develop through these age ranges. You will complete two placements in contrasting settings. In addition to this, there will be a sixth form, SEND and primary enhancement to support you in your developing skills and knowledge.
Our curriculum is designed so that all trainees are challenged and supported at each stage of their journey of becoming a teacher. The outcome in terms of the percentage of trainees awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and gaining employment are excellent.
You will also graduate with a Master’s level PGCE awarded by University of Leicester and will have full access to university facilities and services throughout the course.
Graduates of this course often rapidly gain leadership positions in Secondary teams as their career progresses.
The ethos of Achieve with TELA is that you will be part of the TELA community, not just a trainee teacher on a placement. We invest in initial teacher training to train the teachers of the future for our children, our young people and our community of schools in Leicestershire, Leicester City and beyond.
You'll learn through a combination of classroom practice, and face to face professional learning which is underpinned by the latest research. Professional learning sessions are paced and structured and you get opportunities to practice the theory you’ve learnt.
We know it is a challenging course, but we believe in supporting our trainee teachers to be the best they can be – We are a smaller provider and are proud that we get to know you.
You are supported, every step of the way;
You will be supported by our central Achieve with TELA team, as well as the central SCITT team and as a student at the University of Leicester, by our colleagues at the University.
In school, you will be working with your Subject Mentor and ITT (Initial Teacher Training) Coordinator, who will guide and support you whilst on placement.Within the TELA and the SCITT, you are supported by the team and Lead Mentors. The Subject Lead will deliver the subject specific sessions throughout the year. They will work with you to build on your developing subject knowledge.
This programme is for one academic year, by the end of the Achieve with TELA school based initial teacher training PGCE course you should have met the required professional standards for Qualified Teachers Status (QTS). You will be awarded a University PGCE if you pass the level 7 assignments on the course, you will also have credits towards a Master’s Degree.
Honors degree at (or predicted) 2:2 degree (or above)
As a subject specialist, it is important that you have a secure level of subject knowledge in your chosen subject. We will explore your qualifications, work experience and ongoing subject knowledge development when considering this.
GCSE grade C/ 4 or above in English and Maths or equivalent .
Overseas applicants will need to prove equivalent overseas qualifications.

Each part of the selection procedure will be graded to agreed criteria. The interview questions will be largely based on elements that will contribute to the Teachers’ Standards.
