What are the entry requirements ?

 All applications for initial teacher training have to be made via Apply.GOV.UK

Search our postcode LE9 6PT and select primary or subject  specialism.

What are the entry requirements ?

  Minimum GCSE entry requirements are grade C/4 or above in Maths and English or equivalent . 

For Primary you also need a grade C/4 in Science GCSE . You need to be in your final year of study or have a degree (or ENIC UK (formally NARIC) proof of equivalency).

Will I need a DBS ?

 An Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check is a compulsory requirement of any offer to study on our teacher training course. We will arrange these checks before the start of the teacher training course. 

Do I Need a Degree for Teacher Training?

 Yes, for our Postgraduate Teacher Training course, you must either:

  • Hold a degree worth 360 credits, or
  • Be currently studying towards one.

Primary Teacher Training Requirements

  • You need a 2:2 classification or above (or predicted) in any subject.


Secondary Teacher Training Requirements 

  • A 2:2 classification or above is generally required.
  • Your degree should be related to the subject you wish to teach, or 
  • A strong foundation in subject knowledge at  post-16 qualifications (e.g., A-levels or equivalent).

What qualifications are not considered equivalent to GCSEs for Initial Teacher Training?

 We do not accept the following qualifications as GCSE equivalents -  they do not provide the same breadth and depth of subject knowledge:

  • Access to HE courses – Key Skills/ Functional skill components
  • Level 2 Key Skills or Functional Skills
  • Level 2 Certificates in Adult Literacy and Numeracy
  • Individual modules from any foundation degree

Please note: This is not an exhaustive list. If you're unsure whether your qualifications meet the requirements, we encourage you to seek guidance.

  We accept equivalency tests as valid alternatives to GCSEs in Maths, English, and Science for initial teacher training.

Please note that we do not accept equivalency tests from many other providers so please do check before enrolling.

Are bursaries / scholarships available with school based courses?

  QTS & PGCE - are awarded on successful  completion of the course; 

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the Post Graduate Certification in Education (PGCE) with masters credits from the University of Leicester

YES - You are entitled to exactly the same bursaries or scholarships with school based routes as you are with any other training route (subject to meeting the bursary/ scholarship criteria).

 Subject Knowledge Enhancement Courses (SKEs)  address any gaps that you have in subject knowledge.
