Meet some of our teachers ...

Welcome to Achieve with TELA

Deciding to apply for initial teacher training is a huge step; finding the right provider for you is so important. We would like you to meet some of our TELA alumni - now teachers, Subject Leaders & Heads of Departments...

Meet some of our Alumni

Alex - English

Sagar - Physical Education

Sagar - Physical Education

Alex was changing her career so it was really important to her that she chose a teacher training provider that would support her in her training and beyond.    "When deciding to go into Teacher training, I looked at a few providers but settled on TELA as I really liked the supportive friendly atmosphere that I found here.  Everyone at TELA is really approachable and being a smaller provider means that they get to know you as an individual and offer a personalized approach. "

Sagar - Physical Education

Sagar has always been into sports,

"I’ve always played sport and really enjoyed coaching, so when choosing a university course, I chose a PE and School Sports course at Sheffield Hallam with the hope that I would eventually become a teacher.

After finishing my degree, I worked for a supply agency which lead me to working as a teaching assistant in a special needs school, which initially was out of my comfort zone but such a rewarding experience. I chose to train to teach with Achieve with TELA due to the individual support that you get, along with the group interaction. Being a smaller provider your voice is always heard. I had spent my initial experiences in city schools so wanted to broaden my knowledge and experience county schools"

Zainab - Mathematics

Sagar - Physical Education

Zainab - Mathematics

Zainab studied Math's at Loughborough University, before training to teach with Achieve with TELA.

“I’ve always liked the idea of being a teacher. I love my subject and want to share that passion but I also liked the idea of making a difference and doing something important. I also really like working with children and young people. Teaching was something that combined all of these things.

Teaching is not for the faint hearted but I would definitely recommend teaching as a career. As hard as it is, there is no better feeling than knowing you have made a difference, whether that is teaching a new topic or showing a child that someone cares about them”

Hannah - Science

Roza - Modern Foreign Languages

Zainab - Mathematics

Hannah had always dreamed of being a teacher from a young age.

"I worried that I wasn't good enough to be a teacher, but after volunteering with the Girls’ Brigade and completing my degree in Human Biosciences I started to dream about a career in teaching again, a profession where I could make a difference and share my love of science.

I spent time investigating the different routes into teaching. I wanted a smaller, local provider where I could get to know the team - Achieve with TELA met my criteria.

I wasn’t successful at my first interview but listened to the feedback from the interview and spent a year as a teaching assistant, gaining experience in schools and working with young people before reapplying -second time round I was successful so never give up on your dreams".

Sarah - Design & Technology

Roza - Modern Foreign Languages

Roza - Modern Foreign Languages

Sarah chose to train to teach with Achieve with TELA after her circumstance changed.

"In my previous role as a designer I felt I had accomplished, everything I had wanted to – I needed to revaluate as I had lost my love for fashion and I was ready for a new challenge. I have children of my own and knew how important education is. My journey started as a Learning Support Assistant (LSA), and it was the children I meet in this role that made me want to teach – learning for all.

I chose Achieve with TELA as my training provider as they are a smaller organisation with a personalised approach. They can offer the opportunities to specialise. During my training I was able to spend time in an autism specialist unit which has develop my adaptive teaching to support all learners.

Roza - Modern Foreign Languages

Roza -  explored various aspects of the language when studying for a degree in French at the University of Leeds, having moved to England from Poland.

“Training with Achieve with TELA to be a French Teacher has allowed me to learn from experienced teachers how to share my love for languages with pupils in an engaging, fun, and effective way. Watching your students progressing and building relationships with them is extremely rewarding. Teaching is a job where every day is different, so you are never bored; any challenges you may face  can be dealt with as there is plenty of support for you.

Speaking multiple languages can be highly beneficial when living in such multicultural country as the UK"

Beth - Primary

Gemma - Head of Modern Foreign Languages

Beth - Primary

Beth had always wanted to be a primary school teacher but decided to gain more experience with children before starting her training. "After graduating I started working as a teaching assistant in a foundation stage classroom. Working in a classroom role every day made me want to progress and develop my knowledge of how children learn and how teachers support their progression.

A PGCE is a very full-on year but there is constant support to guide you through"

Meg - Art

Gemma - Head of Modern Foreign Languages

Beth - Primary

Meg - former Art & Design TELA trainee teacher who went to De Montfort University and studied Fine Art.   “Advice I would give to anybody thinking about teacher training, is to reach out to schools and ask if you could spend some time in a school setting.  If that's not possible and you are currently at University, then seek some opportunities where you can work with children. This will enable you to gain  experience, enhance your application and prepare you for teacher training”

Gemma - Head of Modern Foreign Languages

Gemma went to the University of Leicester, and studied French and Italian.

"As part of my year abroad, I spent a year in France and Italy, both as a teacher of English and as an au pair.

After this exciting experience, I decided to undertake my teacher training.

The support I received throughout my teaching placements, and training year from TELA, was one of the key reasons I decided to stay on and start my teaching career."

Richard - English

Sarah - Head of Chemistry

Gemma - Head of Modern Foreign Languages

Richard - former English TELA trainee teacher "Having earned my degree in English Literature at the University of Northampton, I somehow found myself in finance.

After 12 years, I found my way back home with English, in teacher training. The training journey is another whirlwind having to almost relearn some of my subject, then how to teach it on top. There’s so much fun along the way though!"

Sarah - Head of Chemistry

Sarah - Head of Chemistry

Annie - former English TELA trainee teacher

"I went to the University of Sussex where I studied English Literature.

I would recommend teacher training to anybody who has a passion for learning and who wants a career where absolutely no day is the same!"

Sarah - former TELA Science trainee teacher didn't really know what she wanted to do and found herself starting a degree at the age of 25.   "I had always enjoyed the sciences but never quite knew what I could do with them.   Like most, I found my training year quite a challenge but something I always try to encourage others to do is to be super organized, If someone gives you a job to do, do it straight away! "
