Why Choose TELA

With over thirty members from both secondary and primary phases, TELA aims to cover all of the teaching School ‘Big Six’ foci to impact on local learner outcomes. We are a not for profit organisation with learners at the heart, firmly focussed on achieving excellence.

Our TELA School Direct PGCE offers accredited initial secondary teacher training in established partnership with the University of Leicester and, Loughborough University, with new, additional links established from 2015 with the University of Warwick. For those wishing to make an informed decision about teacher training or take advantage of high quality classroom experience to support an application for teacher training, our successful School Experience placements offer a variety of volunteer experience targeted at those wishing to enter the profession.

Accredited as a National Teaching School in 2013, we built on our existing menu of teacher training courses over the last couple of years to offer extensive continual professional development opportunities within our local alliance and across Leicestershire, run in collaboration with education, community, local authority and university partners. Our TELA CPD offer incorporates leadership and pedagogical development for newly qualified teachers and recently qualified teachers through the full range of middle leaders roles to Heads and Senior Leaders conferences and networks. We also offer a range of targeted networks such as Assessment working groups, Performance Data forums, Teaching Assistant CPD, Mental Health networks as well as projects and meetings responding to short term needs. For examples, we are currently a nationally funded lead alliance in Primary Modern Foreign Languages support and training and are just beginning a Foundation Stage School Readiness project with Leicestershire local authority. Talent Management and leadership pathways form an important part of our training and development menu.

We are constantly evolving our research and development role, having recently benefited from nationally funded Closing the Gap projects focussed on primary numeracy and secondary growth mindsets. Our annual Classroom Based Research teachmeet takes place in the summer term and evidence based research feeds into many CPD strands.

With three National Leaders of Education and over twenty other members already in our School Support team, including Specialist and Local Leaders of Education, we are able to offer extensive targeted School to School Support, with teams currently working in nine Leicestershire schools and two Yorkshire schools and measurable impact already evident.
