The Achieve with TELA an established school based programme with a successful track record in Teacher Training working in partnership with Leicester & Leicestershire SCITT and University partners.
As part of our school based learning you will learn from current practicing teachers, see how every lesson has the potential to change a life and start to develop skills required to start doing so yourself, in your community.
All trainee students will be subject to enhanced disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau
Our course structure covers the areas you need to feel completely prepared to enter your Early Careers Teacher (ECT) classroom. You will cover keys stages 3 to 5 and have an in-depth knowledge of how the practices develop through these age ranges. During your training year you will earn both your QTS (Qualified Teaching Status) and PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) and develop your knowledge of how academic theory underpins your classroom practice.
The course is tailored to your needs, while on your two main complementary teaching placements you will have an experienced and supportive subject mentor in school. This approach allows you the time required to embed the theory learned into your practice and explore how an effective teacher utilises cognitive science, pedagogical teaching strategies and experience to refine their teaching.
You will be part of the TELA community, being invited to teacher training days in August, so that feel part of that school community, not just a trainee on a placement.
During the training year, when possible taught sessions will be delivered in our community of schools from across the Teaching Alliance - working with practicing teachers modelling the latest effective teaching practices.
You will be invited to network sessions and specialist training for our trainees. You will also be part of the wider TELA community with the opportunity for network and training sessions with our cohort of primary trainees and other schools within the alliance.
You are supported, every step of the way. On placement you will be working with your Subject Mentor and ITT Coordinator, who ensure you have the exposure required to gain a broad understanding, ultimately shaping you into a powerful, impactful and effective teacher.
Your progress will be assessed throughout the course by your personal tutor, school-based mentors and other course tutors.
By the end of the Achieve with TELA PGCE course you should have met the required professional standards for Qualified Teachers Status (QTS). You will be awarded a University PGCE if you pass the level 7 assignments on the course -you will also have 90 credits towards a Master’s Degree.
Honours degree at (or predicted) 2:2 degree (or above) - Ideally your degree is approximately 50% of the subject you want to teach.
GCSE grade C or above in English Language and Maths or equivalent (New grading system from 2017 GCSE’ Grade 4’ or above)
