The Achieve with TELA School Direct programme is an established programme with a successful track record working in partnership with University of Leicester and our School Direct partners.
The Achieve School Direct programme is a challenging course and we aim to recruit the best. We are looking for applicants with a wide range of skills, knowledge and relevant experience as well as a passion for working with young people.
All trainee students will be subject to enhanced disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau
The course structure during your training year is split between time at university, time with school direct partners and three high quality teaching placements over two schools.
A home school for teaching experience 1 and 3 and a complementary school for teaching experience 2. During school placements/ teaching experiences you will have an experienced and supportive mentor in school and cover teaching practice across the varied age ranges.
The taught sessions with school direct partners link theory with practice and prepare you for your teaching placements and completion of your assignments. These sessions introduce you to the principles and theory of good teaching practice and prepare you for your placements.
You will be part of the TELA community, being invited to teacher training days in August at your home school placement, so that feel part of that school community, not just a trainee on a placement.
You will be invited to network sessions for our trainees, led by primary head teachers from the TELA alliance. These sessions are tailored to meet your needs at that point in time.
You will also be part of the wider TELA community with the opportunity for network and training sessions with our cohort of secondary trainees.
We invest in training the teachers of the future for our community of schools, Leicestershire and beyond.
Throughout the course you’ll be supported by a personal tutor at the University who’ll meet with you regularly to provide guidance, as well as TELA contact and support. On each of your teaching placements, you’ll have a school mentor and ITT coordinator whose role is to ensure things run smoothly and that you have the best possible experience. Your progress will be assessed throughout the course by your personal tutor, school-based mentors and other University tutors.
By the end of the Achieve with TELA PGCE course you should have met the required professional standards for Qualified Teachers Status (QTS). You will be awarded a University of Leicester PGCE if you pass the level 7 assignments on the course -you will also have 90 credits towards a Master’s Degree.
