NPQH APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED

National Professional Qualification in Headship

Develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours that you need to be a high-performing Head Teacher.

Course outline

The NPQH course has been adapted to include a blend of online learning, live webinars and support form our central team.

Face to face delivery of the programme will resume when government guidelines allow. Full outline in the flyer below. The NPQH final assessments are competency based, testing the main competencies that are required for successful Headship. 

You will be  expected to lead a change programme at whole school level lasting at least two terms to improve pupil progress and attainment. You will also research your placement schools resource and capacity challenges and design an action plan to address these.

Who can apply?

You should be, or aspire to be, a Head Teacher or Head of school. This includes Head Teachers or Heads of schools with roles across schools, for example, National Leaders of Education.

Modules to complete

  • Leading with Impact 
  • Increasing capability and leading for improvement 
  • Improving teaching, curriculum and processes 
  • Managing resources, risks and new initiatives 
  • Partnership working and developing system leadership

Choose two elective twilights from-

  •  Improving outcomes for white working class boys
  •  Leadership of a faith school, managing finances effectively and improving outcomes in other schools.

200 guided learning hours -

42 face to face hours (currently delivered as a blend of online learning and live webinars)

72 placement school hours

12 hours self-study professional tasks

12 hours coaching

12 hours engagement with online learning platform

50 hours workplace learning improvement project.


Cost

£1650  +VAT (TELA members receive a 30% discount on all NPQs)

DfE guidance - Access to scholarship funding for delegates working in a category 5 or 6 area, and those working in MATs or dioceses which cover those areas remains suspended until further notice. 

If funding becomes available, TELA will apply this for you. 


Application

 You must have your Head Teachers full support to apply for any NPQ.
